Congleton Dane Probus Club held their monthly meeting at the Lion and Swan on Monday the 21st of September and Chairman Don Newling opened the meeting by welcoming the members and the speaker for the day George Pilkington.

Following the reading of the minutes of the August meeting the chairman thanked David Dickinson and Doug MacKenzie for their work in organising an excellent day out at the Crewe Heritage Railway Museum.
Secretary Paul Nadin asked for any nominations from the members for election to the committee or to a position as a Club Officer be sent to him before the 12th of October.
On behalf of the treasurer he reported that the finances of the Club were in good order and some payments were still required for the autumn lunch.
Vice-chairman Don Cole also thanked the organisers of the trip to Crewe for their work and confirmed that the players for annual golf tournament were now in place.
Paul Nadin confirmed the lunch date of the 5th of October for the dining group and also that he was still short on numbers for the trip to the Brewery Museum in Burton-on-Trent on the 2nd of November but would be holding the list open until the end of September.
The projected trip to JCB in Rocester was confirmed for 2016 as was the day out at Cosford Aerodrome and Don Cole informed the members that he was going to organise the trip to Bletchley Park, looking to make it a two day event with a night away and an additional attraction to be included in the outing. Don asked for a volunteer to lead the proposed trip to the National Space Centre at Leicester and the possibility of a visit to Powis Castle was also discussed.
Lunch organiser Doug Mackenzie appealed for more members to participate in the spring and autumn lunches and informed the members that the Christmas lunch would be organised at the Lion and Swan after the meeting on the 14th of December.
The spring lunch will be in March and he is proposing a St Patrick’s Day theme for that event.
Speaker George Pilkington gave a fascinating talk on the subject of feeding wild birds. Many questions were asked by the members and Alan Soper expressed thanks on behalf of the members.
