The speaker at our next meeting on Monday 14th November is Farouk Kardahji, on the subject of “Lebanon – Past, Present and Future”. Farouk is Lebanese by birth and came first to the UK to further his studies, initially in biochemistry. Having qualified as a podiatrist, he worked at Manchester Foot Hospital before moving to private practice in Buxton in 1983. Now retired from podiatry, he remains an active member of Buxton Rotary Club and regularly gives talks to other groups. He has returned to Lebanon over the years to visit family and document events there.
He will take us on a journey through the history of a small country on the crossing points between East and West. It has been moulded by a variety of religions, cultures, and conflicts over many thousands of years. The talk will mention important historical events, significant monuments that shaped the country and the different religions that make it a unique political democracy. It will also delve into the present problems that Lebanon faces, from terrorism to refugees.
Congleton Dane Probus Club is a friendly group of retired businessmen and professionals. Anyone wishing to sample this meeting and talk can contact the club through the Contact Page of this web site, or if preferred they can ring 07717 375505 to speak to a current member.
