Before the standard monthly meeting on 9th January, the Club held an Extraordinary General Meeting at which a previously circulated change to the Club’s Constitution was agreed by the members present. The new constitution now provides for welcoming lady members into the club. This had followed discussions with interested ladies from the former Congleton Ladies Probus Clubs which sadly wound up during the recent Covid pandemic.
The EGM was then followed by the standard monthly meeting and the first business of the day was to approve and welcome the first lady to join Congleton Dane Probus Club. Two further ladies, as well as one man, visited as guests with a view to applying to join at a future meeting. The invited speaker was David Poppitt who gave a talk entitled “The History of the Christie Hospital” focusing on his time at the Christie and the developments which have led to it becoming what it is today. Questions from the floor were testimony to the quality of, and interest in, the talk.
