Congleton Dane Probus Club held their monthly meeting at the Lion and Swan on Monday the 16th of February. Chairman Don Newling welcomed the members and also gave a special welcome to the three guests, David Haslam, Philip Roberts and Keith Jones. He thanked Peter Turner for coming along to give the talk on the day, this being Peter’s fourth visit to the Club.

Mervin White added more information about the trip on the Manchester Ship Canal, confirming the date of the 3rd of June, the price of £55 per head and the fact that the coach would now collect the members from Congleton, transport them to Salford Quays to meet the boat and would then travel on to Liverpool to meet the members at the end of their trip and transport them back to Congleton.
David Heard discussed the possibility of a day out at the JCB factory in Rocester at a cost of perhaps £25 per person (including lunch) plus the cost of the coach. This proposal received substantial interest and David undertook to look more closely into the idea, possibly to take place some time in the late summer or early autumn.
David Dickinson updated the members about the possible visit to the Railway Museum at Crewe and Paul Nadin reminded everyone of the dining group lunch on Monday the 23th of February and also the coach trip to the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham on Wednesday the 18th of March.
Roger Smith suggested a day out at the Anderton Boat Lift at Northwich. The idea was well received and Roger undertook to have a closer look at the possibility either for later this year or in 2016.
Doug Mackenzie gave final details about the spring lunch and asked particularly that anyone with individual dietary requirements should please let him know.
Peter Jordan advised the members regarding the health of Geoff Parry and concern was expressed about the health of Alan Topliss.
Don Newling gave the members a fascinating insight into the latest skills and techniques now available at the Tuesday morning snooker group meetings, quite hilarious as usual and with the usual request for more members to come along and get involved if they could find the time.
Peter Jordan then introduced Peter Turner who gave a very interesting and illuminating talk on the life and times of Tommy Cooper, demonstrating many of his favourite tricks and also giving the background to his life and comedy routines. Grant Bremner thanked Peter on behalf of the members and they showed their appreciation in the normal manner.
The speaker at the March meeting will be Karen Jones. She is based at the British Red Cross Society office in Knutsford and will speak about the work of the Red Cross Nationally and Internationally.
