Prof Terry Callaghan is the invited speaker at the next meeting on Monday 13th December at Congleton Golf Club. He is an adviser to the UK Parliamentary Group on Polar Regions. He started research into arctic plant ecology and has progressed into ecosystem science and environmental change. He has worked in every arctic country in a career spanning over 50 years and has been recognised by awards including Honorary PhDs from Sweden, Finland and Russia, medals from H.M. the King of Sweden and H.M. Queen Elisabeth of England, and inclusion in the joint award of the Nobel Peace Prize to IPCC in 2007. His illustrated talk will highlight changes in the Arctic, their local consequences and the implications for the rest of the world.
For this meeting we are going to trial having the speaker first then following on with Club business. Will members please ensure that you are in the room by 10:30 so that we can start on time and the speaker is not interrupted.
