Congleton Dane Probus Club (formerly Congleon Probus Two Club) held their monthly meeting at the Lion and Swan on Monday the 16th of September and the chairman thanked John Wolstenholme for organising the trip on the Judith Mary, the lunchtime cruise on the canal boat. It was the chairman’s pleasant duty to welcome new member Denny Stevens to the club. Denny was made very welcome by the members and gave an outline of his previous experience in business.
Brain Cook gave more details of the proposed trip in January to hear the Glen Miller tribute band play at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester. He already had a good response to this suggestion and all names had to be in place by the October meeting as the numbers had to be finalised by the end of October.
The Club Golfers were briefed on the arrangements for the annual inter-Probus golf day due on the 15th of October with members eagerly looking forward to the challenge. Continuing with the sporting theme David reported on the both the boules and the crown green bowling events which had taken place at the end of August and early September. Both had proved popular and it is hoped that these events can be repeated next year.

August news.

The members of Congleton Dane Probus Club (formerly Congleton Probus Two Club) held a most interesting meeting on Monday the 19th of August at the Lion and Swan, the main reason being the extremely entertaining lecture given by Professor Ian Morrison, a senior figure from the Jodrell Bank Observatory. He chose as his subject ‘Are we alone’ and gave a most interesting (and often amusing) talk on the possibility of the existence of some sort of life on a planet other than our own.
The final outcome was that it is unlikely, but then there is always the possibility that there is so no doubt we shall keep on looking. Gordon Watkin gave thanks on behalf of the members.
