Congleton Dane Probus Club held their monthly meeting at the Lion and Swan on Monday the 18th of August and Chairman Roger Smith was able to present new member Michael Saunders with his lapel badge and document folder. Michael gave his introductory speech and was welcomed into the Club.
Don Newling gave members an update on the situation regarding the forthcoming trip to the Manchester Science Museum and asked that anyone interested should please add their name to the list as time was now getting short.

Don Newling gave members an update on the situation regarding the forthcoming trip to the Manchester Science Museum and asked that anyone interested should please add their name to the list as time was now getting short.
Gordon Watkin gave more details on the timing and venue of the boules morning, now to take place towards the end of September. Again volunteers were needed but there was plenty of interest and ladies will be more than welcome.
Gordon also finalised the arrangements for the autumn lunch to take place on the third of October at the Bridge at Prestbury. The menu choice was made available and Gordon requested that anyone interested should contact him fairly soon so that the details could be settled in good time.
Don Newling proposed that the trip to Amsterdam and Keukenhof should take place early in May and that the cost would be £280 per person. The proposition was well received and many members showed their interest. Don also gave his usual amusing update on the Tuesday morning snooker group which is apparently continuing to prosper.
Lyndon Murgatroyd gave a most interesting talk on the subject of Congleton and its history at the time of the First World War. The members thoroughly enjoyed the subject, it brought back many memories and Vaidy Iyer expressed the members’ thanks and appreciation.
The speaker at the next meeting will be Helen Tenwolde. Helen has her own Hearing Centre in Alderley Edge. She will talk about hearing loss and demonstrate various items of equipment from hearing aids to a device fitted to your TV which allows you to move from room to room and still listen.
