Congleton Dane Probus Club held their monthly meeting at the Lion and Swan on Monday the 14th of April and the meeting was particularly well attended, due in part to the speaker for the day being the well-known Peter Slack.
Chairman Roger Smith opened the meeting by welcoming members and the speaker. The secretary thanked the members for their help with their car registrations and emphasised the need for them to be kept up to date.

Don Newling paid tribute to Steven Ellwood for organising an excellent day out at Port Sunlight and this was fully endorsed by the members present. The proposed trip to Keukenhof had now been postponed until May 2015 and the day out in Liverpool had been re-scheduled to take place on Monday the 7th of July.
A ten pin bowling match with Congleton and District Probus Club is organised for the 5th of May and Don’s report on the happenings at the snooker group was even more amusing than usual and was well received by the members.
An excellent talk was given by Peter Slack, the subject being his various and hilarious experiences with walkers on his farm near to Whaley Bridge in the Peak District. Many questions were asked after his talk and Len Ford expressed the members’ thanks, the members showing their appreciation in the normal way.
Chairman Roger then introduced new member Trevor Adams who gave his introductory talk and was warmly welcomed to the Club.
The Congleton Dane Probus Club meetings take place throughout the year. We meet each month in the morning of the third Monday of the month when a speaker has been arranged. These talks are usually serious, often amusing, but never dull. We meet at the Lion and Swan Hotel and many will stay on for lunch before dispersing.
The speaker at the May meeting will be Don Loran, recently the chairman of Holmes Chapel Probus. He will be giving a light hearted 45 minute talk on his experiences during 40 years in eye care.
