Gordon Watkin brought members up to date with the arrangements for the autumn lunch which is being organised to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the club and so will be a rather special event with invited guests and entertainment planned. The snooker group continues to prosper, now meeting at 10.00 o’clock every Tuesday, and whilst well supported Don Newling always stresses that all members are welcome, irrespective of previous experience.
Some members have been experiencing ill health recently. Peter Jordan gave the meeting the latest information regarding their situation and the chairman asked that the best wishes of all the members for a speedy recovery should be conveyed to them.
The speaker for the day was John Parsons, the town crier for Nantwich amongst his other posts. He gave a very interesting talk, outlining the duties and responsibilities of town criers, where they had in the past fitted into society and what their obligations and duties were to-day. he told the members how he had become a town crier, gave a very convincing demonstration of his bell ringing and speaking capabilities, following which he answered many questions and was thanked for his talk on behalf of the members by Don Cole.
