The invited speaker for our next meeting on Monday 8th April will be George King, Emeritus Professor of Physics at Manchester University.
Professor King’s research activities centred around the study of atoms and molecules using synchrotron radiation and electron impact excitation. He has had more than 200 papers published on this subject, and still teaches undergraduate students.
His talk entitled “Solar Energy and its Journey from the Sun to our Electric Kettle”, will describe the birth of solar energy in the centre of the sun, through its journey to Earth and the harnessing of its energy by various technologies. Members are sure to learn some interesting facts behind everyday things that we take for granted.
Congleton Dane Probus Club is a friendly group of retired professional or business men and women – basically anybody who has held positions of responsibility during their working lives. Monthly talks are invariably very well presented, sometimes humorous, sometimes informative, and always entertaining. Anyone wishing to come along to the meeting as a guest is welcome to contact the club through the Contact Page of this web site or if preferred they can ring 07717 375505 to speak to a current member.
