At our meeting on 13th February, we will be given a talk by Steve Abbott on the subject of Avro and the legacy of our aviation industry. Steve began his career in 1965 as an apprentice at Hawker Siddeley Aviation, subsequently British Aerospace and then Bae Systems, and worked there until he retired in 2002.
He then joined the team of volunteers at the Avro Heritage Centre and Museum at Woodford, funded by BAe Systems, and was tasked with designing and project managing the Exhibition Hall installation. He now continues to look after the history of manufacture of aircraft for the benefit of coming generations. Many of the workers at the site came from the local area and Steve is recording their lives in the industry. The legacy is priceless and is to be held in the museum so that the past is not forgotten.
Anyone wishing to come along to the meeting as a guest can contact the club through the Contact Page of this web site at www.congleton-probus.org.uk.
