Congleton Dane Probus Club held their monthly meeting at the Lion and Swan on Monday the 17th of August and Chairman Don Newling opened the meeting by welcoming the members and the speaker David Hargreaves.

Treasurer Brian Cook reported that the club’s finances were in good order and showing a slight improvement on the same time last year. He told the members that he was now looking for payment for the autumn lunch.
David Dickinson gave final details about the trip to the Crewe Heritage Museum and Paul reminded the members about both his proposed trip to the Brewery Museum in Burton-on-Trent in November and also the next luncheon group meet which would be on 5th of October.
Don Cole reminded the members of a few possible ideas for next year and Harvey Meek made mention of a possible trip to Powis Castle.
Peter Jordan informed the members about the health of Ian Fraser and Ted Miller.
Don Newling gave details of a new scoring method recently introduced at the snooker group and reminded members that all were welcome on a Tuesday morning irrespective of previous experience. Doug MacKenzie gave a special welcome to Harry Moore.
Speaker David Hargreaves gave an interesting and well illustrated talk on astronomy, much enjoyed by the members. Gordon Watkin expressed the members’ thanks and the members showed their appreciation in the normal way. The speaker at the September meeting will be Gorge Pilkington on the subject of ‘Feeding Wild Birds’ and comes well recommended.
