Our speaker on Monday 19th March at the Lion & Swan will be Nigel Linge, who is Professor of Telecommunications at the University of Salford with over 30 years experience as a member of academic staff. He is an electronic engineer by profession who specialises in data communication networks and their applications. His research, which has a strong industry involvement, covers 5G mobile, location and context based services, communication protocols, the delivery of multimedia services, network design and architectures. He also takes a keen interest in telecommunications heritage and maintains an active outreach portfolio.
His talk entitled ‘From the spoken word to Broadband’ will explain how we got from there to here in this world of modern communications, tracing the progress over the years and giving background information on the technical improvements as they occurred.
This should be a very interesting talk, so if you are a retired man from either a business or professional background and you would like to come along, listen to the talk and find out more about the Club, then please contact us via our website www.congleton-probus.org.uk and we shall be pleased to make you welcome as a guest of one of our members.
